Smoke Alarms

Smoke alarms save lives! For the best protection in case of a fire in your home, follow these tips:

  • Install a smoke alarm on every floor of your home, even the basement.

  • Install a smoke alarm outside every sleeping area. Ideally, install smoke alarms in every sleeping area, too.

  • Replace smoke alarms after 10 years.

Two out of three home fire fatalities occur in homes that do not have a working smoke alarm.

Please contact us if you cannot afford a smoke alarm or a replacement battery.

The Montgomery County Fire/Rescue Service provides free or reduced-cost visual smoke alarms for hearing-impaired residents of Montgomery County.
